The first session will launch on Tuesday, June 30th from 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm at Sertoma Park, Shelter #7. Thereafter, Talking circles will be held every Tuesday (except July 14th) from 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm at Sertoma Park, Shelter #7. The final Talking Circle for the summer will be held on August 11th. A new "fall schedule" will come out in August! Seating, pizza, and beverages will be provided. Social distancing will be used and masks and hand sanitizer will be provided. The purpose of Talking Circles for Native Youth is to facilitate a restorative community amongst Native American youth and their families. We realize Native Americans need an inclusive and safe place to meet their socio-cultural needs. Youth will gain life skills, motivation, inspiration, and a supportive network with healthy peers. This is a great way to create healthy friendships and mentors. Peer to peer mentoring can be very effective with Teens who are living a healthy lifestyle are connected with Teens who may not have healthy friends and/or role models. Topics will vary. Some topics include well-being during COVID-19, safety in online presence, self-awareness exercises, setting healthy boundaries, healthy relationships, etc. NATIVE, Inc. recommends online registration for all weekly sessions no later than June 29, 2020. At a minimum, NATIVE, Inc. must receive online registration no later than 1 pm on the day of the Talking Circle to ensure we have seating, pizza and drinks.
