Native Artist Professional Development (NAPD) Virtual Training



NAPD Virtual Training will be delivered by First Peoples Fund. NAPD curriculum is a one and a half day, values-based, virtual training experience designed to comprehensively enhance artists’ business skills and prepare them for their journey as successful artist entrepreneurs. First Peoples Fund programs and trainings are geared to give Native artists the tools and support they need to manage small entrepreneurial businesses and to grow as culture bearers and community leaders.


WHO: Native Artists residing within the five tribes of North Dakota

WHERE: Virtual (A link will be sent to participants)

INCENTIVES: Participants will receive a $50 Visa card and a resource

list for completing the training and evaluation form.


Training Schedule:

April 14: 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.(ct)

April 14: 2:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.(ct)

April 15: 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.(ct)


Meet the Presenters

BEN SHERMAN is a former First Peoples Fund Board

of Directors member and Chairman. He is currently an FPF trainer, advisor and consultant. He is a long-time advocate for Indigenous cultural expression and protection. Ben provides consulting services to tribal nations, Indigenous organizations and communities in art marketing, business development, leadership, and tourism. He has worked in tourism for the past 25 years. He earned a Master’s degree in Business Management.



ROBERT MARTINEZ was born on the Wind River Reservation in Riverton Wyoming. He attended Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design and in 3 years he graduated becoming the Youngest Native American to graduate at that time. Robert was recently honored with his home state’s highest creative honor, the Wyoming Governors Art Award. You can currently see select pieces of his work as part of the permanent collection for the Smithsonian National Museum for the American Indian in Washington DC, The Plains Indian Museum at the Bill Cody Center of the West, and the Red Cloud Heritage Museum.
